Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (near Boulder), Utah, USA
— Photographed in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
[You may view a map of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in PDF format.]

We got up around our normal time, and it was clear and 30°F (-1°C) outside. I had my usual breakfast and left by myself in the Jeep around 9:15.

I headed into Long Canyon and photographed things along the wall on the southeast side of the red rock canyon as it was receiving the warm reflected light from the northwest side of the canyon. Evergreens (below left) and a yellow cottonwood (below right) were nice subjects.

I returned to the RV around 11:00, downloaded the images I
took this morning, then started to work up a blog entry.

I had lunch around 12:20 and finished the blog entry. I left by myself in the Jeep around 3:30.

I went to look for the American Dipper that J had seen yesterday in the stream at the base of the white sandstone hill. I took my new-to-me Canon EOS 1D Mk IV and 500 f4 for a walk up and down the stream and didn't see the dipper.

Then I went to photograph some nice junipers on a red sandstone hill. My favorite image is of a tiny juniper at the top of the ridge with a curving layer of slightly different sandstone (left).

I returned to the RV around 5:25 to pick up J, and we left around 5:30.

We headed into Long Canyon and stopped to photograph some large yellow cottonwoods. My favorite image was of the same cottonwood as yesterday but from a different perspective (left).

We returned to the RV around 6:45, and I took a shower while J prepared dinner.

We had dinner around 7:15 of Pineapple Sweet And Sour Chicken over rice. It was a great, easy-to-prepare, meal.

I started to downselect the images from today then turned on the generator around 8:30 for an hour. I finished downselecting the images from today then processed four images for the blog.
