July 17, 2009, a Friday
Whitehorse (Inland Kenworth), Yukon Territory, Canada
— Alaska Highway Day 10: Stuck in Whitehorse
Had a normal breakfast. Heard back from the photo contest contact and my images will be accepted. :) Unhook electricity and depart in the Jeep.

We went to WalMart to pick up some things that J had forgotten the other day.

Stopped at the Petro-Canada in town to load up the Jeep at $0.919/l — the best price we've paid for gas in Canada yet!

We got to the Yukon Inn around 8:30. I started to set up this website on the hosting service. Left at 11:30.

Petro-Canada was selling gas for $0.889/l now!

After driving around town for a while, we stopped at the New Asia (Chinese restaurant) for lunch. We both had the lunch buffet, and it wasn't that good. J couldn't stand the sweet-and-sour mystery-meat.

We went to the Whitehorse Public Library, and their internet access was down, something the woman mentioned the other day when I called. I worked on this website for a while. I called Inland Kenworth to find out the status of the RV, and they'll only have to replace the pinion bearing. The gears were OK. He estimated that it would take another four hours or so to finish the work, too many to get us back on the road today. He offered to let us authorize overtime so the mechanic could work on it Saturday morning, and I declined. Instead, they'd put it back together as much as possible this afternoon and then tow it to their general parking area so we could spend the weekend in it. I did some more computer work and listened to an audio CD from the library.

We returned to Inland Kenworth around 4:45 and the RV was parked out by the fence with duct tape over the rear axle ends to keep the dirt out over the weekend. We started to work in the office and the RV rolled into the fence! I went out, hooked up the Jeep, and used the tow bar to pull the RV back a couple of feet, then chocked the front wheels so we wouldn't roll around again.

Dinner of grilled ham steaks w/BBQ sauce.

Worked on this website some more.
