January 18, 2010, a Monday
Abiquiu Lake, New Mexico, USA
— Photographed near Ghost Ranch
We slept in again because the good photography around here is in the afternoon. It was 28°F (-2°C) out around 8:20. I tilted the solar-electric panels to increase our solar-electric power in the morning. Unfortunately, the RV's pointed southeast, so we won't get very good solar-electric power in the afternoon with the solar-electric panels tilted. There were some western bluebirds and gray-headed juncos feeding in the juniper or pinion pines right next to our site. I did some computer work and worked up a blog entry.

I had lunch around 11:55 and did some more computer work. We left around 3:35 in the Jeep.

We drove north along US-84 to the entrance of Ghost Ranch. Georgia O'Keeffe spent her summers there beginning in 1934, and the red rock sandstone cliffs in the area were the subjects of some of her paintings. We turned around and photographed at an area near the road. I only found one good composition before the sun went behind a cloud bank, but it was a good one. :) The image was created by manually combining three exposures in Photoshop to get good detail in the bright sky, the medium-toned foreground, and the darker shadows.

We returned to the RV around 5:25. I downloaded the images I took, and downselected them in Capture One (C1).

We had dinner at 6:05. J's Chicken Marsala over angel-hair pasta with broccoli was most tasty. We had fresh-baked blueberry pie for dessert — mmm. Oh, I forgot to mention that the special meal was for my birthday — J's the best! She even did the dishes after "cooking all day." :)

We turned on the generator around 7:00 for three hours! I hadn't planned to run it that long, but it was good to charge the house batteries that long. I did some computer work. The website I was working on was behaving differently on the host machine than on my laptop, and I was quite frustrated. I eventually discovered that the website was behaving correctly if I used URLs like http://thesite.com and not like http://www.thesite.com — very strange! I finally broke down and emailed the hosting company to see if they had a clue right before I went to bed around 1:20! What a way to spend my birthday. :)
