September 1, 2010, a Wednesday
near Sedona, Arizona, USA
— Went to town to escape the heat
I got up earlier than usual and worked on the computer until J got up. A hot air balloon flew by shortly after I got out of bed. I bought a Western Digital My Passport 500GB portable hard drive from Meritline.com. They had a good initial price and it was discounted further using a code they had sent me in an email. Meritline sells all kinds of discounted items, and when they have a special on something you're waiting to buy, they usually have a fantastic price. It'll replace a similar 250GB drive that I'll use to backup images in Africa. (I'll be leading a photo tour to Tanzania in February 2011 to photograph typical African plains animals and a photo tour to Rwanda to photograph Gorillas in February 2011.) I started to work up a blog entry. After J stirred, I had breakfast. J left for a walk around 8:20, and I left to go for a walk around 8:30 after I finished eating.

It was nice to get out of the RV to get some exercise even though it was already warm — about 72°F (22°C) in the shade and the sun was beating down on us. J headed back to the RV before I did.

I returned to the RV around 9:20 and showered after cooling down. I purchased the APECS MARPAT Parka through the Buy-It-Now on eBay. I finished the blog entry then we prepped our laundry and laptops. We left in the Jeep around 11:40.

We went to The Laundry Basket in Sedona around 12:05 and started our laundry.

We walked to the nearby Casa Bonita (Mexican Restaurant) for lunch. I had Enchiladas Rancheras (one chicken and one shredded beef) and J had Lunch Combo #3 (one chicken enchilada and one tamale). The chips and salsa were good and I liked J's tamale (she let me have a few bites), but my enchiladas were just average.

We returned to The Laundry Basket around 1:05 and finished our laundry. While waiting for the clothes to dry, I started to work on another blog entry. It was fairly cool inside which was really nice.

We went to the Sedona Public Library around 2:15, mainly to enjoy their air conditioning and also to use their free Wi-Fi. I finished the blog entry and started to work on a newsletter. We left around 6:10 and it was rather pleasant outside — I'm guessing it was only in the low 80s (about 27°C).

We stopped at Safeway to pick up a few things.

We returned to the RV around 6:45 and it was stinking hot in the RV! I put away some laundry, pulled the plug on the Toddy Cold Brew System, then had dinner of lunch stuff. When the Toddy finally stopped dripping, I got 46 fl oz (1.36l) of coffee concentrate, pretty close to the anticipated 48 fl oz (1.42l) for a full batch. It'll be nice to be able to go for 12 days before making another batch because the setup and cleanup is rather labor intensive. I do like the speed at which I can prepare a cup of coffee in the morning though. I worked on the newsletter some more before going to bed.
