September 13, 2010, a Monday
Lehi (Cabela's), Utah, USA
— Errands took longer than expected, so we stayed in the big city
We got up around our normal time and I had my usual breakfast. I processed an image for the blog.

We went into Cabela's at 9:02, shortly after they opened. I first checked out their Cabela's MT050 Gore-Tex Quiet Pak Jacket, and it no longer has a mesh lining and it now has pit zips! (The item on their website is the older model.) It also has an odd zippered pocket on the upper left forearm and zippers across the back under some vent flaps — I think they'd be a mess while wearing a backpack. Then I checked out some North Face fleece jackets, and both the Druid and Denali in Medium fit OK — I was surprised that the sleeve length was OK. The Denali has pit zips and the jacket bunched up under my arms. The Druid fit much better. I couldn't find the Cabela's Polartec Classic 300 ECWCS Specification Jacket, Tall to try on (again). J loved the way the North Face Gordon Lyons 1/4-Zip Pullover (fleece) in Dune Beige looked on me. I picked up a Columbia Corva Springs Jacket for an early Christmas present for J. (It was even cheaper in the store and they had a darker brown available too.) J returned to the RV and I kept looking around. I found some Cabela's 650 Goose Down Jackets on sale, and wondered if J would like one of those too in Pine Green (like olive drab) to replace the odd blue down jacket she had. Yes, it's a selfish present because I think she sticks out like a sore thumb when she wears her blue down jacket while we're out photographing, and the olive drab would look much better.

I returned to the RV and we packed up our computers. We left in the Jeep around 10:45.

We went to a Discount Tires in American Fork around 11:05 so they could repair our flat tire and rotate the tires. They didn't have a Wi-Fi network, so we walked to the nearby Starbucks to use theirs. I worked up a blog entry and downloaded some system updates. The guy from Discount Tires called to let us know that they couldn't repair the tire because we had damaged the sidewall, and they'd be able to get a new tire for us around 3:30. I went back to Discount Tire to pick up the Jeep, and they had rotated the tires. The Jeep looked really odd without the spare tire hanging off the back. I took the Jeep back to Starbucks and had a Clif Bar for a lunch appetizer before going back in. We left around 12:40.

We went to the Panda Express in the same shopping area. We each had a two-entrees-and-a-side. I had Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, and Fried Rice and J had Sweet and Sour Pork, Honey Fire Chicken, and Fried Rice.

We went to the Firehouse Carwash to get the Jeep washed because it was filthy after driving on the dirt roads in the Kaibab National Forest. We left around 1:35.

We went to the American Fork Post Office so J could mail some items that she had eBayed.

We went to a Chevron to fill up the Jeep at $2.799/gal.

Then we looked for a Smith's Food & Drug, and it was closed — permanently.

We returned to Cabela's around 2:35 and went into the store. J liked the Cabela's 650 Goose Down Jackets in Pine Green, so I picked one up for her for another early Christmas present. I also picked up another pair of medium-weight Polartech Power Dry bottoms. When I checked out, I saw that the Polartech Power Dry bottoms had been reduced an additional 50% at the register, so I went back and picked up two more pairs! J also picked up some similar thermals for her too.

I dropped J off at the RV then left by myself in the Jeep around 3:40.

I went to the Camping World in Draper, but I misunderstood the directions from Bossy, our Garmin nüvi 350 GPS, as I got off the interstate and ended up making a long detour. I picked up some drawer latches to fix the broken latch in the bottom drawer in our kitchen and to have a spare on hand because the top drawer is flakey sometimes too.

Then I went to the REI in Sandy to pick up the Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket I had had it sent there because shipping to a store is free. Before I picked up the jacket, I looked at other jackets in the store. The REI Muir Woods Jacket (fleece) in Medium fit well and I liked the Bonsai Green color. It's also available in a Tall size, but only in Black. The Arc'teryx Apache Cardigan, a similar fleece, also fit well, but not enough to justify the almost $100 additional dollars over the REI Muir Woods Jacket. I picked up my Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket and tried it on in the parking lot. It fit like a glove and was extremely light weight (pounds or kg). I left around 4:50.

I returned to the RV around 5:15. I tried on the Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket over my Arc'teryx Covert Cardigan (mid-weight fleece), and the cardigan bunched up a bit under the arms. :( After flexing my arms a bit, the two seemed to work better together which is what I was planning to do. It is a little noisier than I'd like, but I'll see how it works out in the field. It sure packs down well though. We left in the Jeep around 5:25.

We returned to the Discount Tires in American Fork to pick up our new spare tire around 5:40.

We went to the Olive Garden just down the road around 6:05 for dinner to celebrate spending so much money at Cabela's. :) J had the bottomless salad and I had the Lasagna Classico and salad. I was quite impressed by the lasagna and would definitely have it again. We left around 7:00.

We returned to the RV around 7:15. We prepped the RV to move then went to a faucet right in the parking lot to take on enough water to last us until we dump and top off the water tomorrow. We returned to our parking spot and I processed images for some items to eBay. Then I worked up ads and posted them. I tried on J's Cabela's 650 Goose Down Jacket, and it felt about as warm as my new Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket. That was quite surprising because the down jacket is about twice as thick as the Arc'teryx Atom LT Jacket. J also pointed out that I could really use the Tall version of the down jacket if I decided to get one.
