October 3, 2010, a Sunday
Uinta National Forest, Utah, USA
— Photographed at Silver Lake then had lunch and photographed with friends
I got up around my normal time and before J and there was some nice color on the clouds. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take advantage of the color before it faded, so I started to work up a blog entry. The clouds looked nice out the window, so I made coffee to go and left by myself around 8:20 in the Jeep.

I had Clif Bars for breakfast while driving to Silver Lake. I stopped to photograph a cloud above the mountains to the west of Guardsman Pass (below left), then continued to Silver lake where I photographed the lake with some clouds (below right). For the image at Silver Lake, I used the polarizer to maximize the reflection on the water.

I returned to the RV around 10:00 and downloaded the images I took. I re-processed an image for the blog, then we left in the Jeep around 11:20.

We went to the clubhouse at the gated golf community near Kimball Junction where our friends J&AK live to have lunch with them around noon. I had Chilean Sea Bass and J had a special house salad, and both were delicious. We had a nice visit over lunch, then J&AK took us on their "critter patrol" drive through their community which currently has lots of open space. J lent them her cameras so they could get used to a DSLR which they are considering. I really enjoyed helping AK with one camera in the front seat while J helped JK with another camera in the back seat. We found some cooperative Mountain Bluebirds, Magpies, and Flickers. After we found the cooperative Flickers, I was itching to photograph them myself, so we returned to the clubhouse where we had left the Jeep so that we could regroup. J suggested that we swap spouses, so AK and J went in their vehicle and I took JK with me in the Jeep, and we all had cameras. We photographed the Mountain Bluebirds (left), but the Magpies and Flickers didn't cooperate. On the drive through the community, JK pointed out Michael Jordan's house. We photographed some Mule Deer and saw a Redtail Hawk perched close to the road but too high to photograph. When we stopped for another group of Mule Deer after the sun had set, a young bull Moose came out of the woods and then a cow Moose came out of the woods. We left the Moose and headed back through "Porcupine Junction," an area where J&AK frequently see Porcupine. Sure enough, a Porcupine was on the road when we turned the corner, and it rambled up the bank by the side of the road. It was way too dark to photograph it, but it was still nice to watch. We said goodbye to J&AK around 7:35 — a really long and enjoyable lunch! :)

We stopped at the Arby's in Kimball Junction for dinner. I had a Super Roast Beef Sandwich with Curly Fries and J had a BLT.

We stopped at the Maverik gas station in Park City to fill up the Jeep at $2.919/gal.

We returned to the RV around 8:40. I downloaded the images from this evening and checked email. I won the used Garmin eTrex Vista HCx GPS that I had sniped on eBay. :) I decided to get that model instead of the similar Garmin eTrex Summit HC GPS because the battery life is almost twice as long. I finished the blog entry then downselected all of the images I took today.
