October 15, 2010, a Friday
Palisade State Park to Fishlake National Forest (Forsyth Reservoir), Utah, USA
— Moved down the road and got some great news
We slept in this morning. Our friend Andy Baird noted that the charging profile for the Charge Wizard for AGM batteries on our Inteli-Power PD9160A power converter isn't what's specified by Lifeline for AGM batteries. The profile calls for 14.0 VDC in Boost mode, 13.2 VDC in Normal mode, and 12.8 VDC in Storage mode. Lifeline calls for 14.2-14.4 VDC in Bulk/Absorb mode and 13.2-13.4 VDC in Float mode. So, that's pretty much the last nail in the coffin for us to get a Xantrex PROsine 2.0 2000W inverter/charger instead of just mounting the Inteli-Power PD9160A power converter in the same compartment as the inverter so it could have thicker, and shorter, wiring to the battery. I did some things online, then we prepped the RV to move. We dumped at our site then topped off our fresh water. We moved the RV and Jeep to a parking area to hook up the Jeep to tow, then got underway around 11:55.

We headed south on US-89 then got on I-70 westbound.

We went to the Flying J in Richfield around 12:50 and filled up the RV and Jeep at $2.759/gal. I also cleaned all of the windows while taking on fuel. We left around 1:05.

We stopped at Lin's Market in Richfield and J ran in to pick up a few things.

We went to McDonald's in Richfield around 1:30 to use their free Wi-Fi. I had my normal lunch then tried to get online from inside the RV. The signal was too weak for me, so I switched to my USB stick and Verizon Broadband Access signal. J got out her dish, a Hawking Wi-Fi antenna, and was able to get an acceptable signal. After I finished lunch, I went inside around 2:10 to use their Wi-Fi to download some system updates. J came in around 2:35 to buy some fries to go. I returned to the RV around 2:50 and worked up a blog entry.

J's Work Will Be In The Smithsonian — Again

I got notified that the Mile High Wildlife Photography Club (MHWPC) is the photography club winner in the Nature's Best Photography, Windland Smith Rice International Awards, competition! I quickly dashed off an email to all of the club members then updated the club website. Now that it's official, I can let you know that J's Sweetness Personified is one of the images selected from our submission to appear in Nature's Best Photography magazine and to be displayed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC, and that's why I took her picture on October 8, 2010. The news is a little bittersweet though. The last time our club won, in 2007, J and I each had an image that was in Nature's Best Photography magazine and was displayed in the Smithsonian Museum. The list of Highly Honored images will be released next week, so there's still a chance that one of my images will make it.

I ordered a Xantrex PROsine 2.0 2000W inverter/charger before we got underway around 4:25.

We headed east on UT-119 then headed south on UT-24. We took UT-72 north out of Loa and planned to turn into the northern part of Capitol Reef National Park. We kept driving and driving, and soon we wondered if we missed the turn so we ...
Pulled over around 6:10 north of Last Chance Creek to check the map and we had in fact gone too far. I unhooked the Jeep so we could turn around, and it wouldn't start. I tried jumping it with the Husky emergency battery which didn't work (the Husky battery indicated full charge), so I jumped it with the RV which did work. We got underway around 6:30 with me in the RV and J following in the Jeep.

Because it was getting late, we decided not to head into Capitol Reef National Park along what could be a rough dirt road, and instead ...

We went to a boondocking spot at Forsyth Reservoir around 7:00. There was no Verizon Wireless signal. I tilted the solar-electric panels and J started dinner.

We had dinner around 7:30 of a Great Value (WalMart brand) Chicken alla Vodka & Farfalle and Texas Toast. J said that all of the Great Value skillet meals like that were knock-offs of the Bertolli skillet meals with the same names and contents. It didn't taste anywhere near the same to me, and one piece of chicken had gristle — something I had never found in the Bertolli meals.

I did the dishes then worked up a blog entry.
