October 19, 2010, a Tuesday
Fishlake National Forest (near Heart Lake) to near Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, USA
— Photographed, moved down the road, and photographed
[You may view a map of Capitol Reef National Park in PDF format.]

I got up earlier than usual and it was mostly clear and 34°F (1°C) outside. I had my normal breakfast and prepared a mug of coffee to go. I left by myself in the Jeep around 7:40 and J stayed in the RV to rest.

I headed to the hidden lake that I found, and there was some fresh snow on the ground as I got close to the lake. :)

I had a ball photographing the small lake with a thin layer of ice and fresh snow on the rocks that surrounded it (left).

I returned to the RV around 9:30 and made an offer to the seller of the used Canon EOS 1D Mk IV camera body on FredMiranda.com. It was a really clean body and had only about 1200 shutter actuations — practically new. We prepped the RV to move and I stowed the solar-electric panels. I checked my email one last time before we departed, and the seller of the Canon EOS 1D Mk IV replied with a counter-offer which I accepted. J left in the Jeep and I PayPaled him the funds. I left in the RV around 10:40.

I met up with J who was waiting for me at UT-72, and we hooked up the Jeep to tow. We headed south around 11:10.

We went to the Post Office in Loa around 11:20 to pick up our mail.

Then we went to the Royal Market in Loa to do some grocery shopping. After I picked out my lunch stuff, I returned to the RV and ...

Went to the Sinclair in Loa to fill up the RV and Jeep at $2.869/gal.

I returned to the Royal Market and had lunch while opening up our mail. The used handheld Garmin eTrex Vista HCx GPS arrived, as did the used automotive Garmin nüvi 765t GPS, and the Wilson external cell antenna pigtail for my USB727 stick. The Wilson cell amp wasn't in with the mail. :( J finished shopping around 12:25 and we got underway around 12:35.

We stopped at a motel in Torrey around 1:10 to use their open Wi-Fi network. I started to upload the images to my stock agent, and the FTP connection kept dropping out. I suspected a bad connection to the net through the Wi-Fi connection, so I switched to the slowish Verizon Wireless National Access signal. The FTP connection kept dropping out there too. :( I worked up a blog entry. We left around 2:55.

We stopped at the campground in Capitol Reef National Park around 3:15 to use the dump station and to take on fresh water. We got underway around 3:45 and kept heading east on UT-24.

W reached a nice boondocking spot outside the park on BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, and I was able to level the RV by parking it in the correct position. There was no Verizon Wireless signal. We left around 4:30 in the Jeep.

We headed back into Capitol Reef National Park and stopped at the Visitor Center to pick up a map. Then we continued heading west and went to Panorama Point and then to the Goosenecks Overlook. Then we started to head back towards the RV and stopped to photograph the red rock formations. J wanted to check email on her iPhone, so we headed west again to try to get a good enough signal for her. We stopped at Chimney Rock to photograph the Moon as it was rising (left) — cool!

We returned to the RV around 6:50 and I tilted the solar-electric panels while J prepared dinner.

We had dinner of leftover pork chops and peaches — mmm.

After I did the dishes, I downselected the images from today and then processed three images for the blog.
