July 27, 2009, a Monday
near the Worthington Glacier to near the Matanuska Glacier, Alaska, USA
— Photographed Worthington Glacier
We relaxed this morning and I had a regular breakfast. It was solid overcast again. I improved the search functionality of this site. We left at 11:25 in the Jeep to ...

Explore Worthington Glacier. We took the short walk up by the side of the glacier along the lateral moraine and photographed the interesting cracks in the ice. The image to the left was taken right near the edge of the glacier looking "downstream." The gravel and ice in the lower section is the glacier, and the rock and waterfall at the top of the image are below the glacier. I used the 90 Tilt/Shift so that I could align the plane of focus along the glacier in order to get as much of the frame in focus as possible.

We returned to the RV at 1:10 and I hooked up the Jeep while J fixed some soup for her lunch. I had some Clif Bars because I had run out of pastrami for a sandwich. :( We departed at 1:45.

We headed north on the Richardson Highway and had a nice tailwind. :) The clouds started breaking by 1:55.

We stopped at the Copper Center Museum parking lot at 3:12 to go online through our USB sticks at National Access speeds — slow. I was able to upload images and blog entries to get things up to date, and I also checked my email. We left at 4:48.

We stopped at the Tesoro in Glennallen, at the junction of the Glenn Highway, at 5:08 to load up the RV. J went to the visitor center next door to see if there were any free dump stations nearby, and the woman didn't know of any. :( We departed at 5:17 and headed west along the Glenn Highway.

We went to the Omni Park's Place (grocery store), in Glennallen, at 5:20 so I could pick up some lunch stuff. We departed at 5:27 and continued heading west along the Glenn Highway.

We got to the Tolsona Wilderness Campground around 5:50 to use their dump station. It cost us $5, but we were due because our last dump (only four days ago) wasn't very satisfactory. We had dinner while loading up on water of leftover J's sausage sauce over penne pasta and a very tasty tossed salad. We left at 7:08.

The sun came out at 7:28. Most of the drive was through willow and scattered spruce, and there were some nice mountains to the south.

We arrived at a nice boondocking spot down the Alascom Road (Glenn Hwy mile 70) at 8:18. I had hoped to go to the Matanuska Glacier this evening, but J was tired out from all of the activity today, so we'll go there tomorrow morning. I unhooked the Jeep, then left in the Jeep to explore further down the Alascom Road. I saw a duck with some ducklings and a beaver lodge in the Knob Lakes.

After I returned to the RV, I downloaded images from today and edited them. J served some cookies-n-cream ice cream while I processed an image from today for the blog. I worked up the blog entry while having some Asbach Uralt.
