— Difficulty printing, and dinner out with SJ&DilK et al
Had my normal breakfast, then showered. It took longer that I expected to gather the "images" I wanted to print this morning. I was going to print three 13x19 sheets of business cards, and one 13x19 sheet of special business-card-sized labels for my framed prints that hang in The Majestic Gallery in Idaho Springs, Colorado.
I started to set up the Epson Stylus Photo R2880 printer to print on Moab Entrada Natural 300 paper for the first time. So far, I've only used the R2880 to print on Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster (Premium Luster) with the PK (photo black) ink cartridge. The Moab Entrada is a matt paper, so the first thing I did was swap out the PK ink cartridge with a MK (matt black) ink cartridge. It took a while to clear out all of the PK ink, but fortunately the ink cartridges ride just above the print head, so not too much ink is wasted. The printer was on the floor by the dinette so I could put the prints on the dinette to dry, and I had my laptop on a dinette seat so that a USB cable could reach the printer. Then I tried to set up the printer driver to be compatible with the printer profile, but I couldn't select "Watercolor Radiant White" paper — it was grayed out. That was odd, so went back to the PK ink cartridge — more ink down the drain. J left around 11:30 to go babysit grandkids GJ and GS. Now with the PK ink cartridge, "Watercolor Radiant White" paper wasn't even displayed in the printer driver!!! I called Epson Tech Support, and found out that three things have to happen in order to select "Watercolor Radiant White" paper in the printer driver: 1) an MK ink cartridge has to be installed, 2) the paper in the Page Setup dialogue box has to be set to one of the "Manual - Roll" settings (I was using regular "Super B (13 x 19 in)" instead of "Super B (13 x 19 in) (Manual - Roll)"), and 3) a sheet of paper must be inserted in the single-sheet feeder or roll-paper slot. What a hassle. I had had no trouble printing on Moab Entrada Natural 300 with my old Epson Stylus Photo R2200 through the regular paper path and could select the "Watercolor Radiant White" paper in the printer driver when I had selected "Super B (13 x 19 in)." I hate it when someone else tries to think for me to make life easier for me. I put the MK ink cartridge back in, and because there wasn't enough ink left in it (I had started the day with about 1/4 of the capacity left), I got to open up a new PK ink cartridge. After I was able to select the "Watercolor Radiant White" paper from the printer driver without any paper in the printer, I didn't think that the third criteria was really required, so I tried printing with a single sheet of paper in the normal multi-sheet paper holder. The printer complained that there was no paper where it was expecting paper, so I got to install the single-sheet paper holder and then coax the printer to accept the paper. I tried several different approaches to get the paper loaded, and kept getting a paper-feed error. The paper-feed-error button didn't clear the error, so I had to shut down the printer after each error. I called Epson Tech Support again, and the tech support person had me try some things with the Moab paper, then had me feed a sheet of Epson Premium Luster, a much thinner paper. The Premium Luster fed just fine, and the tech support guy put me on hold so he could try to come up with another suggestion for the Moab paper. While I was on hold, I finally got the printer to load a piece of Moab Entrada paper, but it jammed when I tried to start printing. After a few more tries with the tech support guy back on the line, I finally got the printer to print around 1:00!
Had lunch at 1:05 of a Genoa salami and Swiss cheese sandwich on rye with Grey Poupon Country Dijon mustard with a glass of Coca Cola Classic, followed by an apple — we were out of bananas. The prints looked good when they finally came out of the printer, and I only had one more paper-feed error while printing. I started to backup my external hard drive where I store my processed images onto a drive from my storage unit. I started to take on fresh water for the RV around 2:10. The threads on the faucet at the front of the house were fouled, so I used a Water Thief to attach our hose to it. I did some computer work. J came back, then left again to run some errands. J returned in time for us to leave at 6:25 in the Jeep.
We went to the August Moon (Chinese restaurant) to belatedly celebrate DilK's birthday. I had General Tao's Chicken and J had Sesame Chicken. We all split two orders of Fried Crab And Cheese Wantons for an appetizer. GS, age 3, really enjoyed them until she fell out of her adult chair while eating a second one. After she settled down, she asked for a high chair (those adult chairs can be dangerous) and refused to eat the rest of the Fried Crab And Cheese Wanton (the real cause of her accident). :) We finished up, then went by SJ&DilK's to pick up the end of the wash that J had started while there earlier.
We returned to the RV around 8:00, and I printed the text side of my two-sided business cards. My mother called, and her patch of squamous cell carcinoma was completely removed — all of the edges were clean. I backed up my external hard drive where I store music and not-yet-processed images onto a drive from my storage unit.
