October 31, 2009, a Saturday
Parker (K), Colorado, to Sugarite Canyon State Park (Lake Alice), New Mexico, USA
— On the road again
It was 28°F (-2°C) around 7:00. I had my normal breakfast and did some computer work. I left around 9:30 by myself in the Jeep to go ...

To the Parker Library to pick up some items that I had had on hold and that had finally arrived. The snow on Wednesday and Thursday had closed the Douglas County Library system, and the items I had requested were at other branches and had to be transported to Parker.

I returned to the RV and did some computer work. We left in the Jeep around 11:00.

We went to SJ&DilK's (J's Son J and Daughter-in-law K's) to say good bye one last time. GS (granddaughter S, age 2.5) gave me a really nice hug and cuddled for a while. :) GJ (grandson J, age 4) enjoyed climbing all over me, and GA (grandson A, age 7) was engrossed in Saturday-morning TV.

We went to bank so I could get some cash from the ATM, then we went ...

To McDonald's so J could get some take-away for lunch.

I dropped J off at the RV around noon, then left by myself.

I dropped off my items at the Parker Library, then went ...

To India's Kitchen in Parker for their lunch buffet. It's a new restaurant and I hadn't eaten there before. SJ&DilK had pointed it out when we went out to belatedly celebrate DilK's birthday at the nearby August Moon, and DilK had given me a coupon for it last night. The buffet was OK, but nothing special. That's fairly typical of most Indian restaurants though — they put out the stuff the most people will enjoy, and rarely put out the stuff that I would really enjoy. I'll probably order off the menu the next time we're back in town.

I returned to the RV around 1:00, unplugged the electricity, then finished prepping the inside of the RV to move. We left around 1:15 with me in the RV and J following in the Jeep.

We went to the King Soopers at Stroh Ranch just to the south of Parker to load up the RV and Jeep with gas. We were able to use our 10¢/gal discount to fill up each vehicle at $2.459/gal.

We went to the Conoco gas station in Franktown to get propane for the RV. J had called them earlier to make sure that we could get propane there, but the guy said they only did propane on weekdays. So, we went ...

To the Shell gas station in Franktown to get the propane for the RV. We had to wait for a while before someone came out to fill up the tank, but he really filled it. Most people will only fill it until the gauge reads "F," but this guy squeezed another gallon (4l) or so into the tank beyond "F"! After we got the propane tank filled, we hooked up the Jeep to tow.

We headed over to Castle Rock and got on I-25 south using a new on-ramp.

We stopped at the WalMart in Pueblo around 4:05 so I could do some quick shopping while J went online to check her eBay auctions that were ending. We left around 4:45 and continued heading south on I-25.

We stopped at a rest area just north of Trinidad at 6:20 for dinner. I made
Bertolli Chianti Braised Beef & Rigatoni and homemade garlic bread using a loaf of bread from Carino's. That was the first time we had had that flavor of Bertolli, and while the beef was very tasty, the sauce wasn't as good as the sauce for the Italian Sausage & Rigatoni. Then I did the dishes while J went online to handle her eBay auctions that had ended. We left around 7:20 and continued heading south on I-25.

We entered New Mexico at 7:45.

We reached Sugarite Canyon State Park at 8:00. We stopped at a pullout at 8:04 to unhook the Jeep, then went to the Lake Alice Campground where we occupied Site 13. I went to bed shortly after we set up camp because I was exhausted.
