April 24, 2010, a Saturday
Lansdale, Pennsylvania, to Prince Frederick, Maryland, USA
— Visited my Unky Joom
I got out of bed before J and got ready. J was out of bed by the time I was going online to check email and eBay items. We went to breakfast around 8:35. We started with a nice bowl of mixed fruit (grapes, strawberries, and blueberries) then had some blueberry turnovers while waiting for our cheese omelets and whole-wheat toast. J had brought her tea from the room and I had coffee. We returned to the room and I finished a blog entry then read more of The Number of the Beast by Robert A. Heinlein. We left around 10:25.

We picked up my mother and left around 11:00.

We stopped to fill up her car at $2.849/gal, then got underway.

We headed south on I-476, then took I-95 south. We got on I-495 to go around Wilmington, and entered Delaware around 12:05. We got back on I-95, and the rest area where we had planned to stop was closed due to construction, so we got off at the next available exit and ...

Went to Applebees for lunch around 12:20. I had a Bacon Cheeseburger and both J and my mother had a bowl of potato soup. My mother and I shared a Triple Chocolate Meltdown for dessert and J enjoyed her own Maple Butter Blondie. We got underway around 1:20.

We entered Maryland at 1:32.

We stopped at the Maryland House rest area around 1:55 for a stretch and potty stop. My mother has a sensitive back, and has to get out to stretch before spending more than an hour or so in the car. We got underway again around 2:10.

We got on I-895 and went through the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel. Then we got on I-97 followed by MD-3 then MD-4.

We stopped at a strip mall around 2:55 for a stretch break, and got underway again around 3:00.

We reached my Unky Joom's place near Solomons, Maryland, around 4:05. (You may read more about my Unky Joom on the blog entry for August 7, 2009.) When J and I visited him and my Aunt D about a year ago, he was in the midst of chemo for lymphoma. Because the lymphoma was at an advanced stage by the time it was diagnosed, we weren't sure if he would be around much longer. Fortunately, the lymphoma went into complete remission, and now he's back to normal. It was the first time my mother had been to their "new" house because she had been tied down so much with her second husband. They have the house on the market and are keeping it in an almost-constant state of preparedness for showing, so ...

We went to the Rudy Duck Brewery & Grill for dinner. I started with a pint of their Maibock which was tasty. I had their special salmon with a chipotle glaze, and it was perfect! J had the Artichoke Spinach Dip with crab and focaccia, and that was good too.

We returned to my aunt and uncle's place, visited, and had dessert of strawberry shortcake. The three of us left around 9:50.

We went to the Super 8 in Prince Frederick for the night.
