July 20, 2010, a Tuesday
Crested Butte, Colorado, USA
— Stuck in Crested Butte
We got up around our usual time and conditions were perfect for wildflower portrait photography — almost solid overcast and no wind. Alas, we were marooned in Crested Butte while our Jeep is getting worked on to have the power steering fixed. I had my usual breakfast then worked up a blog entry. The Wi-Fi connection from the Crested Butte Public Library was fast enough that I downloaded an episode of Cat Talk and did some computer work. The Wi-Fi signal dropped way down around 8:20 so I switched to the fast Verizon Broadband Access signal on my USB727 stick. I finished the blog entry and took it live. Then I processed images for a stock submission.

I had lunch around 12:10 and read through some of the July 2010 Outdoor Photographer. I called Crested Butte Auto Repair around 1:50 to check on the status of the Jeep, and found out that they received the wrong part from Jeep. They ordered to correct part and it should arrive tomorrow. J wasn't happy with the news so I called around town to see if anyone had the pressure line in stock that we needed. No one I called did, but one guy suggested that I try CarQuest or NAPA in Gunnison. Before I could call down there, someone called me from Crested Butte Auto Repair and let me know that the part they received is in fact the correct part and they'll try to install it later today. I processed more images for a stock submission and finished the set of 200.

The images in this blog post are some favorites from my recent processing for the stock submission. The bare tree (left) is my favorite tree in Glacier National Park, and I've photographed it almost every time I've been there. The Western Salsify seedhead (below left) is unlike any other image I've ever taken, and I love the graphic nature of Dawn at Lake Sherburne (below right). That image was created from three exposures that were combined by hand in Photoshop.

I went into the Crested Butte Public Library at 3:00 to access their Wi-Fi signal from inside. I uploaded the images for the stock submission and surfed the web. The Verizon Wireless website indicates that they're now expecting to ship the Droid X by August 3rd!

I returned to the RV around 4:05. I backed up the hard drive that contains the recently-processed images for the stock submission. It started raining lightly around 4:20. I called Crested Butte Auto Repair around 4:40 to check the status, and the guy seemed annoyed that I called. He didn't have an update for me but would "later today." Because we thought they might close at 5:00, I asked how late they're open and he said 6:00. I just love those guys. Then I started to work on the blog entry for today.

We had dinner around 5:35 of taco salad. We didn't get a call from Crested Butte Auto Repair by 6:00 — surprise, surprise.

After dinner, I called my Unky Joom to see how he and my aunt are doing. It was good to touch base with them. Then we called my mother, and she absolutely loves being able to use the Apple Wireless Keyboard with her iPad because she can touch type. After we were done, I did some computer work and finished making changes to this website to make finding previous blog entries easier.

Glad you like it ottmarrohe. After blogging for a little more than a year, it was time to add a better search feature so that even we could find things easier.
